The carpet is the first thing to wear out in a Mercedes interior, and it's one of the most expensive things to make right again. Road salt, coffee spills, snow-melt and grit from your shoes all grind into the fibers, and once it's stained the damage shows every time a door opens. A proper set of mats is cheap insurance — protecting the carpet keeps the cabin looking new and protects resale value when it's time to sell.
The choice comes down to two paths: genuine OEM Mercedes mats for a factory look, or aftermarket liners for maximum protection at a lower price. Below we compare both and name our picks.

Genuine Mercedes mats — the carpeted velour set with the embroidered logo — look exactly right because they're made for the car. If you keep your Mercedes in concours condition or lease and want the factory presentation, they're the natural choice. The all-season rubber OEM set is also excellent, just expensive.
The downside is cost and protection. OEM velour stains easily and holds water; OEM rubber mats protect well but usually have lower edges than a dedicated liner. For most owners who actually drive in weather, you can get equal or better protection for less by going aftermarket.
These are the aftermarket sets we'd put in our own cars, ranked.
Always buy custom-fit mats cut for your exact model and year. Universal mats slide, bunch up, and can slip under the pedals — a genuine safety hazard. Laser-measured liners lock to the factory anchor points and stay put.
For all-weather use, TPE rubber wins. It's waterproof, wipes clean, and won't hold mold or odor. Carpet velour looks more premium for a show car but demands far more upkeep and stains permanently.
Look for full front-and-rear sets with tall raised edges that trap spills instead of letting them run onto the carpet. Higher edges are the single biggest difference between a mat and a true liner.
